William Clark Memorial Bellefontaine Cemetery

I have long had a fascination with westward expansion and the stories of the pioneers, after all, I live in the gateway to the West. I have read countless stories on the pioneers and early explorers and realized that I lived just minutes from the memorial of one of the great explorer of our great country.

William Clark (August 1, 1770 – September 1, 1838) along with Meriwether Lewis (August 18, 1774 – October 11, 1809) set out on one our nation’s greatest adventures, the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 – July 4, 1826) and in May 1804 they set out to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase.

As I read about the travels of the expedition, my curiosity grew even stronger and my interest in the explorers themselves deepened. I wanted to see were their final resting place is and these are the photos of William Clark’s memorial in Bellefontaine Cemetery in St Louis, Missouri.
